The closest competitor to the STi is probably the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, which I drove briefly at a recent The sedan's Limited trim rings in at $37,345. The WRX STi starts at $33,995 for the new base sedan model, which is what I drove during my test drive, and $35,995 for the base hatchback model. Subaru's legendary all wheel drive system, which is standard, kept this baby bolted safely to the road. I didn't have much luck, though. However, I couldn't resist trying a little corner slide or two as I skipped the highway in favor of the twisty, curvy dirt frontage road. I've been to a couple of rally racing schools and know just enough about it to realize how much I don't know. STi stands for Subaru Tecnica International, which supplies high performance versions of Subaru vehicles. The STi is aimed at those interested in attending organized track days. However, if you already have the STi and the family just sort of happens upon you (do we need to have a birth-control discussion?), you can probably make it work for a bit before needing to upgrade. I tried to make the two worlds coexist harmoniously during my one week test drive, but the truth is the Impreza WRX STi isn't exactly a car you'd go out and buy for a growing family. It's a world that's less centered on booster seats and storage cubbies and more focused on rally racing heritage, speed and oversized rear spoilers. Driving the 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STi transported me to a world that was completely foreign.

Subaru Impreza WRX STI 2011Has Wing and Needs Gold
Subaru claims that while this has no bearing on horsepower or torque, it makes the car sound. Meaner and louder. We mentioned to Subaru Also, the sedan STI features two mufflers (still has four pipes) as opposed to the wagon's one giant muffler (and four pipes). However, since there's less weight over the rear wheels (and since the STI's diff is slightly rear biased) they might be a bit slower. Since the sedan is marginally lighter than the five-door, 0-60 mph times might improve. While power is unchanged (305 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque), high-speed stability of the four door is greatly improved, as is at the limit handling, by you guessed it that mega wing. The 2011 STI also sports less unsprung weight than the 2010 model due to lighter 18 inch wheels that are a combined 17.6 pounds less heavy. New for the STI(s) this year is an improved suspension consisting of stiffer bushings, stiffer springs, and thicker anti-roll bars at both ends of the car. awkward looking (we know, we know) that the looks are actually improved by a 14 inch wing. Or at least admit that the four door Impreza body is so... And while we love hot little performance wagons, you have to admit the wing is pretty sweet. That's right, you can also buy the five-door STI. This is the first time that Subaru has ever offered an STI in two body styles. For the first time in three years, Subaru is offering up a four-door sedan version of their performance icon, the WRX STI.
Car News Subaru Impreza WRX STI 2011
As mentioned although it hasn’t yet been officially announced. Subaru confirms that all the above will be reflected on the five door hatchback when the 2011 BBS brand 18s will continue to be optional, and both rollers will come wearing summer only 245/40 Dunlop SP600 rubber. New standard 18 inch wheels are said to save a total of 17.6 pounds over the old rims. But differentiating the STI from the lesser WRX is the huge rear spoiler. Subie says it enhances high speed stability and helps achieve zero aerodynamic lift and polished quad tailpipes. Like the 11 WRX, the grille is revised, the bumpers are more aggressive, and the fog lights are blacked-out. Beyond its new sedan body style, the STI gains some other aesthetic tweaks for 2011. Subaru says that extensive testing on the Nürburgring resulted in crisper handling while maintaining a livable ride. Stiffer springs to the tune of 15.6 percent in the front and 53 percent in the rear are installed, as are more rigid rear subframe bushings and new pillow ball bushings in the front. Compared with last year’s STI, the ride has been lowered and both the front and rear anti roll bars have been beefed-up in diameter by 1 mm. The upgrades made to create the 2010 STI Special Edition were only the beginning, the 11 STI goes further with an even more aggressive suspension to reduce body roll and create more neutral handling. With 305 hp already on tap from the STI’s turbocharged flat-four, there wasn’t much need for more power, so Subaru’s engineers focused on what needed help the most, the suspension and on road handling.
