Y la Copa del Rey acabó atropellada en un tonto accidente mientras los blancos celebraban el título en Cibeles. Sergio Ramos, que era el portador en esos instantes del trofeo, se cae dentro del autobús y a consecuencia de su caída el trofeo de unos 20 kg de peso se precipita a la calzada, donde un hábil chófer, después de verla caer por el parabrisas, le pasa una rueda por encima. Toda una celebración a lo grande.

El Real Madrid, campeón de la Copa del Rey

El Barça fue de menos a muchísimo, asedió el área del Real Madrid durante toda la segunda parte, pero no mató, y el Real Madrid, que hizo una brillante primera parte, aprovechó una de las contras de que dispuso para romper el brillante palmarés de Pep Guardiola, que contaba sus seis finales por títulos.
De salida, sin sorpresas. Mourinho repitió con el 'trivote', pero sin '9', con Ozil, Di María y Cristiano Ronaldo por delante. Mientras, Guardiola, finalmente alineó en el eje de la zaga a Mascherano junto a Piqué y se decantó por Pedro por la derecha.

Villa se agotaba en disputas con Arbeloa y sin encontrar el hueco, mientras Messi, no era capaz de zafarse del acoso continuo. La intensidad fue tal, que el protagonista también tuvo que ser el árbitro, acosado en cada jugada dudosa por al menos ocho futbolistas. Las faltas y las protestas deslucían el encuentro, con poco fútbol, pero mucha intensidad, sobre todo madridista, ya que los barcelonistas no terminaban de superar el asedio del equipo blanco, que tuvo la mejor ocasión en la cabeza de Pepe. Di María recibió de Marcelo y la colgó al área para que el '7' rematara de forma impecable para superar a Pinto y hundir al Barça, que no supo convertir su dominio en goles y se queda sin opción de triplete.
